Information About Our Private Weight Loss Medication Service
We are pleased to offer a comprehensive and supportive private weight loss service (not an NHS service), where our trained pharmacist or pharmacy technician will guide you through your weight loss journey. Please be aware that there are strict criteria regarding eligibility to be prescribed these medications and some people will not qualify. Here’s a quick overview of the service we provide
1. Free Initial Appointment
Your weight loss journey begins with a free initial, face to face consultation, where our pharmacist or pharmacy technician will discuss with you and explain:
- Your lifestyle, diet and level of exercise and the causes of your weight gain
- What your expectations in terms of weight loss are
- How the weight loss medication works on your body
- Possible side effects
- How to properly administer the medication
2. Screening for Medical Suitability
Before prescribing the medication, we’ll carry out a medical screening check to ensure you are medically suitable for the treatment. We will measure your weight, take your blood pressure, measure your waist circumference and check your NHS medical record. To be prescribed the weight loss medication you must not have any of the exclusion criteria and have a Body Mass Index (BMI) over 30 (or 27 with another weight related medical problem). This is important for your safety and to make sure the medication is right for you. Please be aware that all supplies of medication is at the professional discretion of the pharmacist or pharmacy technician completing your consultation and there may be reasons we cannot provide you with these treatments.
3. Medication Dispensing
If after the medical screening, as detailed above, you are suitable for the medications and wish to proceed, we can provide you with the weight loss medication during the same appointment. The only cost you’ll pay is for the medication itself. A full price list of monthly costs is further down this webpage.
4. Follow-up Appointments
To help you stay on track, we will arrange follow-up appointments every four weeks. During each of these appointments, we will:
- Measure your weight and waist circumference
- Review your progress
- Provide any further medication if required
- Answer any further questions you may have
5. Appointment Duration
- Initial Appointment: Approximately 30 minutes
- Follow-up Appointments: Approximately 15 minutes every four weeks
