NHS Contraceptive Service

 What we offer as part of this service

• Initiation of oral contraception: Our pharmacists can assess and initiate eligible individuals on the combined oral contraceptive pill (COC) or the progestogen-only pill (POP). 

• Ongoing supply of oral contraception: We can supply you with repeat prescriptions for your existing oral contraception from the pharmacy, without you needing to go to your GP or sexual health clinic. 

• Confidential consultations: Our Pharmacists provide private consultations to discuss suitability, answer questions, and offer support and advice.

• Referrals: If needed, our pharmacist can refer you to your GP or a sexual health clinic for further assessment or for other contraceptive methods. 

How it works:

• Eligibility: The service is generally available for those seeking to start or continue with oral contraception, with specific age criteria for COC (up to age 49) and POP (up to age 54). 

• Consultation: The pharmacist will conduct a consultation to assess suitability, discuss medical history, and offer advice on usage and potential side effects. 

• Blood pressure checks: The pharmacist will check your blood pressure as part of the assessment. 

• Referral: If the pharmacist identifies any concerns or suitability issues, they will refer you to your GP or sexual health clinic.
